We present optical spectra of four intermediate mass candidate young stellar objects that have often been classified as Herbig Ae/Be stars. Typical Herbig Ae/Be emission features are not present in the spectra of these stars. Three of them, HD 36917, HD 36982 and HD 37062 are members of the young Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC). This association constrains their ages to be 1 Myr. The lack of appreciable near infrared excess in them suggests the absence of hot dust close to the central star. But…

NGC 146: a young open cluster with a Herbig Be star and intermediate mass pre-main sequence stars
We present UBV CCD photometry and low-resolution spectra of stars in the field of the young open cluster NGC 146. UBV photometry of 434 stars were used to estimate the E(B − V) reddening of 0.55 ±
Investigating the inner discs of Herbig Ae/Be stars with CO bandhead and Brγ emission
Herbig Ae/Be stars lie in the mass range between low and high mass young stars, and therefore offer a unique opportunity to observe any changes in the formation processes that may occur across this
X-Ray Emission from Early-Type Stars in the Orion Nebula Cluster
The X-ray properties of twenty ~1 Myr old O, B, and A stars of the Orion Trapezium are examined with data from the Chandra Orion Ultradeep Project (COUP). On the basis of simple theories for X-ray
A Spitzer survey of mid-infrared molecular emission from protoplanetary disks I: Detection rates
We present a Spitzer InfraRed Spectrometer search for 10-36 μm molecular emission from a large sample of protoplanetary disks, including lines from H_(2)O, OH, C_(2)H_2, HCN, and CO2. This paper
On the highly reddened members in six young galactic star clusters - a multiwavelength study
The spectral and reddening properties of 211 highly reddened proper-motion members with V 70 per cent) of programme stars in NGC 1976, NGC 2244, NGC 6530 and NGC 6611 show anomalous reddening with R
Relation between the Luminosity of Young Stellar Objects and Their Circumstellar Environment
We present a new model-independent method of comparison of NIR visibility data of YSOs. The method is based on scaling the measured baseline with the YSO's distance and luminosity, which removes the
The Appearance and Disappearance of Exocomet Gas Absorption
CaII K-line (3933 A) absorption profiles observed towards 15 A-type and two B-type stars with known (or suspected) debris disks, in addition to archival spectral data for three A-type stars, are
A high-resolution spectropolarimetric survey of Herbig Ae/Be stars – I. Observations and measurements
This is the first in a series of papers in which we describe and report the analysis of a large survey of Herbig Ae/Be stars in circular spectropolarimetry. Using the ESPaDOnS and Narval
Probing the wind-launching regions of the Herbig Be star HD 58647 with high spectral resolution interferometry
We present a study of the wind launching region of the Herbig Be star HD 58647 using high angular (lambda/2B=0.003") and high spectral (R=12000) resolution interferometric VLTI-AMBER observations of
Expanding CO Shells in the Orion A Molecular Cloud
We present the discovery of expanding spherical shells around low to intermediate-mass young stars in the Orion A giant molecular cloud using observations of $^{12}$CO (1-0) and $^{13}$CO (1-0) from

A reconsideration of disk properties in Herbig Ae stars
This paper presents state-of-the-art spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of four Herbig Ae stars, based in part on new data in the mid and far-infrared and at millimeter wavelengths. The SEDs are
Spectral types in the Orion nebula cluster
MK spectral types of 26 of the brightest cluster members show (1) nine stars with broad hydrogen-line cores, (2) two Am stars, of which one is in the region of the pre-main-sequence stars, (3) two
Analysis of correlations between polarimetric and photometric characteristics of young stars - A new approach to the problem after eleven years' study
We present the results of the investigation of correlations between the polarimetric and photometric characteristics of a sample (496 objects) of young Herbig Ae/Be (HAEBE) stars and T Tauri (TT)
Herbig Ae/Be Stars: Intermediate-Mass Stars Surrounded by Massive Circumstellar Accretion Disks
The proposition that Herbig Ae/Be stars are young intermediate mass stars surrounded by optically thick accretion disks is explored. From a study of 47 such objects, a subset of 30 stars is
We review the wide range of observed properties of Herbig Ae/Be stars and try to combine this rich data set into a consistent picture of their circumstellar environment and evolutionary status. We
Proper motions of stars in the region of the Orion Nebula cluster (C 0532{054) ?
Relative proper motions and membership probabilities for 333 stars within an area of 1: 6b y 1:8 centred on the Orion Nebula M 42 are determined using plates taken over a period of 83 years with the

We have identified 50 T Tauri stars (TTS) and 74 Herbig Ae/Be (HAEBE) stars observed in the IUE short-wavelength bandpass (1150-1980 A). Each low-resolution (R ~ 6 A) spectrum was visually inspected
