The importance of triplet states in the photorelaxation dynamics of SO2 is studied by mixed quantum-classical dynamics simulations. Using the SHARC method, standing for Surface Hopping including ARbitrary Couplings, intersystem crossing (ISC) processes caused by spin-orbit coupling are found occurring on an ultrafast time scale (few 100 fs) and thus competing with internal conversion. While in the singlet-only dynamics only oscillatory population transfer between the (1)B1 and (1)A2 states is…

Nonadiabatic dynamics with spin-orbit couplings
This thesis deals with the excited-states dynamics of molecules beyond the Bon-Oppenheimer approximation (nonadiabatic dynamics). The nuclei were always treated with classical mechanics while the

Surface Hopping Dynamics on Vibronic Coupling Models
How surface hopping based on an LVC Hamiltonian (SH/LVC) can provide an economical and automated approach to simulate non-adiabatic dynamics is described, and the typical costs of contemporary SH simulations are compiled, evidencing the great advantages of using parametrized potentials.
Validating fewest-switches surface hopping in the presence of laser fields.
The adequate treatment of the overcoherence in FSSH is revealed as the driving factor to improve the description of the excitation process with respect to the MCTDH reference, and the augmented-FSSH (AFSSH) correction and the energy-based decoherence correction were tested.
Time-resolving the UV-initiated photodissociation dynamics of OCS.
Surprisingly, fast oscillations with a period of ∼100 fs were observed in the S+ channel of the UV dissociation of OCS molecules after UV-photoexcitation at λ = 237 nm, based on wavepacket-dynamics simulations coupled with a simple electrostatic-interaction model.

PySurf: A Framework for Database Accelerated Direct Dynamics
Simulations of a pyrazine model and ab initio-based calculations of the SO2 molecule show that energy-only calculations with PySurf are able to correctly predict the nonadiabatic dynamics of these prototype systems, being competitive to commonly used semiclassical approaches.
Behind the scenes of spin-forbidden decay pathways in transition metal complexes.
This review dives into the inability of non-relativistic quantum theory to describe spin-forbidden transitions, which can be overcome by taking into account spin-orbit coupling, whose importance grows with increasing atomic number.
Direct Grid-Based Nonadiabatic Dynamics on Machine-Learned Potential Energy Surfaces: Application to Spin-Forbidden Processes.
This Article demonstrates how the ML-based quantum dynamics scheme can be adapted to model nonadiabatic dynamics for spin-forbidden processes such as intersystem crossing (ISC), opening up new possibilities for modeling chemical dynamic phenomena driven by spin-orbit coupling.

Rotational Structure in the Absorption Spectrum of SO2 between 3000 Å and 3300 Å
Rotational analyses have been carried out, with varying degrees of completeness, for nine bands of S16O2 and two bands of S18O2 in the region 3000–3300 A. The bands are all highly perturbed type C
Zeeman effects in the band System of sulfur dioxide
Bands of the system of sulfur dioxide appear as structured absorption superimposed on an apparent continuum. A portion of this System between 3250 and 3000 A has been recorded in a magnetic field and
Spin-Orbit Configuration Interaction Using the Graphical Unitary Group Approach and Relativistic Core Potential and Spin-Orbit Operators
Spin−orbit configuration interaction (CI) is formulated in terms of the graphical unitary group approach (GUGA) in combination with relativistic core potential and spin−orbit operators, thus
Electron spin fine structure constants of the ã3B1 state of SO2
Rotational analyses have been carried out for the (0,0) bands of the absorption systems of S16O2 and S18O2, from high dispersion plates taken with the gases at dry ice temperature. The rotational a...
