The active noise reducing headphone is probably the most successful application of active control of sound – the technology of canceling sound with sound. This report presents an outlined technical review of noise cancellation in headphones. The principles of passive noise attenuation are presented after which active attenuation is introduced showing how the two complement the attenuation performance.
