Nitric oxide production was measured during endotoxin-induced mastitis. One hour after morning milking, the right hind quarters of 15 cows were infused with saline containing Escherichia coli endotoxin. Left hind control quarters were infused with saline only. At varying intervals before and after infusion, diagnostic markers of mastitis were recorded and nitric oxide production was evaluated by measuring nitrite plus nitrate levels in milk.
