Stem cell factor (SCF; c-kit ligand) and nitric oxide are whole body radiation protectors that presumably act by different mechanisms. The purpose of the present study was to determine if nitric oxide, delivered to mice by the nitric oxide releasing agent DEA/NO, combined with SCF would provide enhanced radiation protection in C3H mice compared with the protection afforded by either agent alone.
