OBJECTIVE Nitric oxide (NO) is a free radical involved in inflammation and immune reactions. The presence of NO is usually assessed by assaying its degradation products, nitrite and nitrate. NO binds to thiol-containing proteins to form S-nitrosoproteins (S-NP).
