In this study, we collected, identified, and cultured phytoplankton that inhabited the small-scale artificial wetlands in Danyang-gun of Chungcheungbuk-do and Suwon-si of Gyeonggi-do. From the study, nine newly recorded species, including four genera (Mychonastes, Willea, Hindakia, and Oocystella), were found in Korea: Choricystis guttula, Mychonastes densus, Willea apiculata, Pseudokirchneriella elongata, Raphidocelis subcapitata, Hindakia tetrachotoma, Oocystella nephrocytioides, Oocystis…

The genetic diversity and phylogeny of green microalgae in the genus Choricystis (Trebouxiophyceae, Chlorophyta) in Lake Baikal

Analysis of nuclear and plastid genes in microalgae of the genus Choricystis showed higher genetic diversity than previously thought and a possible endemic speciation in Lake Baikal.

Checklist of green algae (Chlorophyta) for the state of Mato Grosso, Central Brazil

This checklist of Chlorophyta corroborates the studies that highlight the high degree of richness of this phylum in the aquatic systems of Brazil.

Taxonomic reassessment of the genus Mychonastes (Chlorophyceae, Chlorophyta) including the description of eight new species

The generic concept of the chlorophycean green algae Mychonastes and Pseudodictyosphaerium (preferably living in colonies) is evaluated by means of small-subunit and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rRNA gene sequence analyses and microscopical observations, and all taxa of the two genera are combined under the generic name Mych onastes.

The Genus Kirchneriella Schm. (Chlorophyceae) in Argentina: Taxonomy and Geographic Distribution

The taxonomic study and geographic distribution of the genus Kirchneriella Schm.

The ultrastructure of Mychonastes ruminatus gen. et sp. nov., a new member of the Chlorophyceae isolated from brackish water

A new monotypic genus of the Chlorophyceae isolated from brackish water of the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, U.S.A. is described as Mychonastes ruminatus. The alga is compared with similar members of the

EVALUATING THE MORPHOSPECIES CONCEPT IN THE SELENASTRACEAE (CHLOROPHYCEAE, CHLOROPHYTA) 1

The data suggest that the application of a broad morphospecies concept to the Selenastraceae has resulted in an underestimation of the species diversity of this family and probably erroneous conclusions about the distribution of species.

Two new Dictyosphaerium-morphotype lineages of the Chlorellaceae (Trebouxiophyceae): Heynigia gen. nov. and Hindakia gen. nov.

The results have confirmed the polyphyletic origin of the Dictyosphaerium morphotype within the Chlorellaceae and established the new genera Hindakia and Heynigia.

The taxonomy of the Chlorophyta. II

The taxonomy of all the algal groups possessing both chlorophyll a and b is discussed for the levels above that of the family and the author favours maintaining a large number of orders but also the rejection of those based on single characters.

Phytoplankton composition of the Ebro River estuary, Spain

The composition of phytoplankton in the Ebro River estuary (Spain) was analyzed at six sampling stations in April, July and October 1999 and February 2000, based on plankton net and bottle samples, and the following new combinations are proposed: Monactinus simplex (Meyen) Corda var.

Reinstatement of the genus Willea Schmidle 1900 for Crucigeniella Lemmermann 1900 nom. illeg. (Chlorellales, Trebouxiophyceae, Chlorophyta)

This study highlights the need to understand more fully the phytochemical underpinnings of fungal establishment and decline in the presence of E. coli and other pathogens.

Oocystis nephrocytioides sp. nov

Ce l l s ellipsoid, asymmetrical, in extreme cases kidney-shaped, joined in two-celled (rarely four-CElled) coenobia, dissolving completely during the forma tion of autospores and changing into a colourless, non-bordered mucilage which keeps the daughter cells together.
