The influence of magnetic Ni and nonmagnetic Zn impurities on the normal-state pseudogap (PG) in the c-axis optical conductivity of (Sm,Nd)Ba(2){Cu(1-y)(Ni,Zn)(y)}(3)O(7-delta) crystals was studied by spectral ellipsometry. We find that these impurities, which strongly suppress superconductivity, have a profoundly different impact on the PG. Zn gives rise to a gradual and inhomogeneous PG suppression while Ni strongly enhances the PG. Our results challenge theories that relate the PG either to…

Nanoscale phase separation and pseudogap in the hole-doped cuprates from fluctuating Cu-O-Cu bonds

The pseudogap phenomenology is one of the enigmas of the physics of high-${T}_{\mathrm{c}}$ superconductors. Many members of the cuprate family have now been experimentally characterized with high

Locating the pseudogap closing point in cuprate superconductors: Absence of entrant or reentrant behavior

Current descriptions of the pseudogap in underdoped cuprates envision a doping-dependent transition line $T^*(p)$ which descends monotonically towards zero just beyond optimal doping. There is much

The investigation on anomalous isotope effect coefficient of LaSrCuO superconductor

In this research, the anomalous isotope effect coefficient of LaSrCuO superconductor was investigated in the weak-coupling method. The constant and van Hove singularity density of state, pseudogap,...

Unusual Enhancement of Normal and Superconducting State Properties of (100-x)YBa2Cu3O7-δ + xNi (x = 1, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, and 15 wt%) Composites with Low Level of Ni Additives

Samples of superconducting composite (100-x)YBa2Cu3O7-δ + xNi (x = 1, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, and 15 wt%) were synthesized via solid state reaction method. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed

Signatures of the bonding-antibonding splitting in the c -axis infrared response of moderately underdoped bilayer and trilayer cuprate superconductors

We report on results of our analysis of the c-axis infrared conductivity, sigma(c )(omega), of bilayer LnBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta) (Ln=La, Nd, Y) and trilayer Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+delta high-T-c

Structural, electrical, magnetic, and flux pinning properties of YBCO/Ni superconducting composites: analyses and possible explanations

Samples of superconducting composite (100-x)YBa2Cu3O7-{\delta} + xNi (x = 1, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 and 15 wt.%) were synthesized. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed that the grain size of

Pseudogap from ARPES experiment: three gaps in cuprates and topological superconductivity

A term first coined by Mott back in 1968 a `pseudogap' is the depletion of the electronic density of states at the Fermi level, and pseudogaps have been observed in many systems. However, since the

Synchrotron radiation-based far-infrared spectroscopic ellipsometer with full Mueller-matrix capability.

It is demonstrated how magnetic and electric dipoles, such as magnons and phonons, can be distinguished from a single MM measurement without adducing any modeling arguments.
