  • In cold-drawn pearlitic steel wires dissociation of cementite occurs during mechanical deformation. This phenomenon has substantial influence on the physical properties of the material owing to the defect structure which builds up during heavy straining. In this work the influence of cementite decomposition on the vacancy concentration in ferrite (α-iron) was investigated in an indirect way by determining the nickel-diffusion coefficient using atom probe tomography (APT).
