The goal of magnetospheric physics is to understand the active magnetosphere in terms of the principles of Newton and Maxwell. These principles include Ampere's law, the Faraday induction equation, and the dynamical interplay of the forces between the bulk plasma velocity u, the plasma pressures p∥ and p⊥, and the magnetic field B.
