This study examines the use of the newspaper as a vehicle for poetry writing in the alternative classroom. Case histories were taken and interviews were conducted with two adolescents who were assigned to a residential drug treatment center. Their poems and those of several other students, which were written following newspaper-based instruction, are presented and discussed. Results of a one year follow-up interview and implications for practice conclude this report.
