Abstract This paper presents a torsion sensor based on large Matteucci effect in Fe 77.5 Si 7.5 B 15 amorphous-glass-covered magnetic wires. The torque sensitivity of the Matteucci-induced voltage across the ends of a twisted wire is of 2.5 mV/deg. The sensor's characteristic shows a very good linearity of the response in the range of (− 75, + 75) rad/m.
