Poxviruses are nucleocytoplasmic large DNA viruses encompassing two subfamilies, the Chordopoxvirinae and the Entomopoxvirinae, infecting vertebrates and insects, respectively. While chordopoxvirus genomics have been widely studied, only two entomopoxvirus (EPV) genomes have been entirely sequenced.
