Some old and new ideas on symmetry breaking, based on the presence of extra dimensions that have been the subject of a very fast development and intensive studies during the last years, will be presented in these lectures. Special attention will be devoted to the various compactification mechanisms, including toroidal and orbifold compactifications, and to non-trivial boundary conditions or Scherk-Schwarz compactification. Also symmetry breaking by Wilson lines, or Hosotani breaking…
GUT on Orbifolds:. Dynamical Rearrangement of Gauge Symmetry
Grand unified theory defined on higher-dimensional orbifolds provides a new way to solve the hierarchy problem. In gauge theory on an orbifold many different sets of boundary conditions imposed at
Phenomenology of symmetry breaking from extra dimensions
Motivated by the electroweak hierarchy problem, we consider theories with two extra dimensions in which the four-dimensional scalar fields are components of gauge boson in full space. We explore the
Symmetry Breaking in Six Dimensional Flux Compactification Scenarios
Motivated by the electroweak hierarchy problem, we consider theories with two extra dimensions in which the four-dimensional scalar fields are components of gauge boson in full space, namely the
TASI Lectures on Extra Dimensions and Branes
This is a pedagogical introduction into theories with branes and extra dimensions. We first discuss the construction of such models from an effective field theory point of view, and then discuss
Spontaneous Scherk-Schwarz Supersymmetry Breaking and Radion Stabilization
In this talk I review the issues of supersymmetry breaking and radion stabilization in a five dimensional theory compactified on the Z_2 orbifold. Supersymmetry breaking by Scherk-Schwarz boundary
Majorana fermions and CP violation from 5-dimensional theories : A systematic approach
Within five-dimensional compactified theories we discuss generalized periodicity and orbifold boundary conditions that allow for mixing between particles and antiparticles after a shift by the size
Fermion families and soft supersymmetry breaking from flux in six dimensions
In this thesis, we study compactifications from six to four dimensions on the orbifold T2/Z2. By choosing this simple famework, we are able to study effects generically present in compactifications
EXTRA DIMENSIONS AND BRANES
This is a pedagogical introduction to theories with branes and extra dimensions. We rst discuss the construction of such models from an eectiv e eld theory point of view, and then discuss large extra
Supersymmetry and electroweak breaking in the interval
Hypermultiplets are considered in the five-dimensional interval where all fields are continuous and the boundary conditions are dynamically obtained from the action principle. The orbifold boundary

Finite mass corrections in orbifold gauge theories
The Standard Model Higgs boson can be identified with the extra dimensional component of a gauge boson in a higher dimensional theory where the gauge group is broken to the Standard Model group by
Brane-assisted Scherk-Schwarz supersymmetry breaking in orbifolds
We have analyzed the interplay between Scherk-Schwarz supersymmetry breaking and general fermion (gaugino or gravitino) mass terms localized on the fixed point branes of the S^1/Z_2 orbifold.
Supersymmetry and electroweak breaking from extra dimensions at the TeV scale
We analyze some features of the role that extra dimensions, of radius R in the TeV 1 range, can play in the soft breaking of supersymmetry and the spontaneous breaking of electroweak symmetry. We use
