Globalisation changes the way in which societies sustain themselves across generations. The growth of pension fund capitalism has produced a new global political economy. In the 1990s crisis in the provision of public pensions contrasted with the enormous expansion of privately controlled pension funds. These funds have themselves turned to crisis in recent years.
