The use of fluorescent quantum dots (QDs) incorporated in or tagged with polymeric microbeads allows multiplexed coding of biomolecules. Compared to organic dyes, QDs are characterized by improved imaging capabilities, brightness, and photostability and may be used for simultaneous detection of multiple biomarkers.
