Abstract Starting from a simple crystalline approximant with only 8 atoms per unit cell (B20 or FeSi-type structure), the higher-order approximants are constructed in two ways. The first approach is based on a computer search for the cubic unit cell of the next approximant inside the structure of the preceding approximant.
