Photoacoustic methods offer unique capabilities for photosynthesis research. Phenomena that are readily observed by photoacoustics include the storage of energy by electron transport, oxygen evolution by leaf tissue at microsecond time resolution, and the conformational changes of photosystems caused by charge separation.
