The present report provides the first general account of the shallow-water hydroids (excluding Eudendriidae) of Martinique, French Lesser Antilles. Of a total of 92 species recorded, 10 athecates and 31 thecates are discussed here, with the remaining species having been the subject of earlier accounts. Six hydroids, namely Halecium discoidum, H. xanthellatum, Sertularella calderi, Antennellapeculiaris, A. similis, and A. tubitheca, are new. Previously unreported data on the nematocyst…
Additions to the hydroids (Cnidaria, Hydrozoa) of marine fouling communities on the mainland of Ecuador and in the Galapagos Islands
TLDR
Four introduced and eight cryptogenic hydroid species from the coast of mainland Ecuador are recognized and three of them, E. integra, C. irregularis, and C. seriata, are new to the Ecuadorian mainland.
Aglaopheniid hydroids (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa: Aglaopheniidae) from off New Caledonia collected during KANACONO and KANADEEP expeditions of the French Tropical Deep-Sea Benthos Program
TLDR
Sixteen aglaopheniid hydroids occurring in two recent, deep water collections from off New Caledonia are reported upon, of which 8 species are new, namely Cladocarpus asymmetricus sp. nov., C. partitus sp.—nov, Lytocarpia fragilis sp.-nov, L. pseudoctenata sp.–Nov, and Macrorhynchia spiralis sp-Nov.
Integrative systematics illuminates the relationships in two sponge-associated hydrozoan families (Capitata: Sphaerocorynidae and Zancleopsidae)
TLDR
An integrated approach using morphological and genetic data is used to accurately characterise species in these families, identify the previously unknown polyp stages of the genera Euphysilla and Zancleopsis, describe a new sphaerocorynid genus and species, and assess the phylogenetic position of the two families within the Capitata.
An integrative identification guide to the Hydrozoa (Cnidaria) of Bocas del Toro, Panama
ABSTRACT This work is the first attempt to assess the biodiversity of the Hydrozoa in the Archipiélago de Bocas del Toro (Panamá, Caribbean Sea) using morphology and molecular taxonomy, and to
Hundreds of genetic barcodes of the species-rich hydroid superfamily Plumularioidea (Cnidaria, Medusozoa) provide a guide toward more reliable taxonomy
TLDR
A classical morphological approach with DNA barcoding of the 16S and COI mitochondrial markers for 659 and 196 specimens of Plumularioidea was integrated, finding considerable inconsistencies in the systematics of nominal families, genera and species.
Modern alongside traditional taxonomy—Integrative systematics of the genera Gymnangium Hincks, 1874 and Taxella Allman, 1874 (Hydrozoa, Aglaopheniidae)
TLDR
It is proposed to revalidate the genus Taxella which is currently regarded as a synonym of Gymnangium and cluster together in one phylogenetic clade, until now regarded as distinct species based on morphological characteristics.
