Abstract. Four new species of earthworm species collected from various parts of Hainan Island were found. The species belong to Amynthas and Metaphire and are characterized by having two pairs of spermathecae in 7/8–8/9. They are described here as Amynthas flexuosus sp. nov., A. lucidus sp. nov., A. haikouensis sp. nov. in the aeruhinosusgroup of species of the genus Amynthas, and Metaphire fortuita sp. nov. in the insulana-group of species of the genus Metaphire. Their anatomical and… Expand

A numerical revision of the earthworm genus Pheretima auct. (Megascolecidae: Oligochaeta) with the recognition of new genera and an appendix on the earthworms collected by the Royal Society North Borneo Expedition
TLDR
Numerical methods were used to investigate the affinities of 114 species assigned to the genus Pheretima with the view to dividing it into smaller, more manageable units. Expand
Four new earthworms of the genus Amynthas (Oligochaeta: Megascolecidae) from Mount Emei, Sichuan Province, China
TLDR
Four new species were collected from Mt. Emei, Sichuan Province, China and could be assigned to the Amynthas aeruginosus group according to the definition of Sims and Easton, and the barcode data (partial sequence of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I) of each species has been submitted. Seven new species of Amynthas (Clitellata: Megascolecidae) and new earthworm records from Taiwan
TLDR
Earthworm specimens collected in southern Taiwan consisted of seven new species of Amynthas and several previously known species, mostly widely distributed peregrines, and four proandric octothecal species that are united by several features. Expand
A NEW SPECIES OF EARTHWORM FROM GUIZHOU PROVINCE (OLIGOCHAETA: MEGASCOLECIDAE)
TLDR
The new species is similar to Pheretima leonoris Chen, 1946, but differs from the latter in having no spermathecae chamber; having longer diverticulum and long-stalk gland connecting with spermae and rather small male copulatory chamber. Expand
Molecular Phylogeny of Pheretimoid Earthworms (Haplotaxina: Megascolecidae) Based on Mitochondrial DNA in Hainan Island, China
In the Chinese Hainan Island, Amynthas and Metaphire are two dominated pheretimoid earthworm species belonging to the family Megascolecidae. They differ from earthworms in the adjacent regions inExpand
Molecular systematics and phylogeography of the gigantic earthworms of the Metaphire formosae species group (Clitellata, Megascolecidae).
TLDR
The systematics and phylogeography of this Metaphire formosae species group were investigated using DNA sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase sub unit I (COI), 16S ribosomal (r)RNA, and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1 (ND1) to expose non-monophyly within each of the genera Amynthas andMetaphire, and more generally within the Pheretima complex.
