Cells of the dinoflagellate Peridinium were frequently observed in water samples of Togyo reservoir, and some species were responsible for dense blooms. Recently, we could identify them as P. bipes f. occultatum Lindem. and P. aciculiferum Lemm., considering morphology (Ki et al. 2005a; Ki and Han 2005b): However, some unidentified Peridinium cells with different shapes and body sizes were found among the samples collected during early spring. Here we describe their morphological…

New record of the dinoflagellate Unruhdinium penardii var. robustum (Dinophyceae) from Paldang Reservoir, Korea
TLDR
Results confirmed that the dinoflagellate collected from Paldang Reservoir, Korea was clearly U. penardii var.
DISCRIMINATIVE POWER OF NUCLEAR rDNA SEQUENCES FOR THE DNA TAXONOMY OF THE DINOFLAGELLATE GENUS PERIDINIUM (DINOPHYCEAE) 1
TLDR
18S and 28S rDNA D1/D2 sequences are informative about relationships among Peridinium species, suggesting that the former as DNA markers may be more suitable for sequence‐based delimitation of Perid inium.
Phytoplankton dynamics in a subtropical tidal creek: influences of rainfall and water residence time on composition and biomass
Concerns about global climate change have heightened awareness of the role changing rainfall regimes play in altering plankton communities of coastal ecosystems. In this study spatial and temporal

Sequence-based diagnostics and phylogenetic approach of uncultured freshwater dinoflagellate Peridinium (Dinophyceae) species, based on single-cell sequencing of rDNA
TLDR
A sequence-based diagnostics for uncultured Peridinium cells from field samples was applied, and could clearly resolve P. bipes f.
Analysis of Small-Subunit rDNA Sequences Obtained from Korean Peridinium bipes f. occultatum (Dinophyceae)
TLDR
Genotypic analysis showed that all the Korean isolates had the same genotype (100% sequence homology), and they were nearly identical to a Japanese strain of P. occultatum (NIES 364; 99.8% sequence similarity).
Growth pattern and cellular nitrogen and phosphorus contents of the dinoflagellate Peridinium penardii (Lemm.) Lemm. causing a freshwater red tide in a reservoir
TLDR
Decreasing cell content and continuous uptake of phosphorus were advantageous for P. penardii to form a freshwater red tide under P-limited conditions.
