A Phalarodon fraasi (Ichthyosauria: Mixosauridae) from the Middle Triassic of Svalbard

This study suggests a reassignment of the specimen PMO 219.250 to the genus Mixosaurus, and opens up for the possibility of Mixosaurus on Svalbard, which would imply a wider geographical distribution of the genus than previously recognised.

A NEW MIXOSAURID ICHTHYOSAUR FROM THE MIDDLE TRIASSIC OF CHINA

The holotype of Mixosaurus maotaiensis, which is very fragmentary and has no taxonomic value at the species level, is found to be undiagnostic, and hence the lately introduced, monospecific genus name for this species needs to be abandoned.

First three-dimensional skull of the Middle Triassic mixosaurid ichthyosaur Phalarodon fraasi from Svalbard, Norway

2022. First three-dimensional skull of the Middle Triassic mixosaurid ichthyosaur Phalarodon fraasi from Svalbard, Norway. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 67 (1): 51–62. The marine Middle Triassic

THE TAXONOMIC STATUS OF MIXOSAURUS NORDENSKIOELDII (ICHTHYOSAURIA)

The aim of this note is to analyze the syntype series of M. nordenskioeldii to clarify the taxonomy of mixosaurid ichthyosaurs and find out which diagnostic characters are present in the syntypes.

Effects of body plan evolution on the hydrodynamic drag and energy requirements of swimming in ichthyosaurs

It is shown that even the early ichthyosaurs produced low levels of drag for a given volume, comparable to those of a modern dolphin, and that deep ‘torpedo-shaped’ bodies did not reduce the cost of locomotion.

Triassic ichthyopterygian assemblages of the Svalbard archipelago: a reassessment of taxonomy and distribution

Ichthyopterygians were amongst the most specialised lineages of secondarily aquatic amniotes; however, their origin and initial radiation remain obscure. The stratigraphically oldest and

New Mixosaurid Ichthyosaur Specimen from the Middle Triassic of SW China: Further Evidence for the Diapsid Origin of Ichthyosaurs

Abstract Recent cladistic analyses have all suggested a diapsid origin of ichthyosaurs. However, an intermediate evolutionary stage of the lower temporal region of ichthyosaurian skull between basal

Early Triassic ichthyopterygian fossils from the Russian Far East

Ichthyopterygia is a major clade of reptiles that colonized the ocean after the end-Permian mass extinction, with the oldest fossil records found in early Spathian substage (late Olenekian, late
