Abstract Three new species and two new varieties of Mentzelia belonging to the multistemmed subshrub group of section Bartonia are described. Typical of the group, they are narrow endemics occurring in relatively barren clay soils in the Intermountain Region of interior western U.S. Mentzelia tiehmii and Mentzelia argillicola are from Nevada, Mentzelia memorabalis from northern Arizona, Mentzelia multicaulis variety uintahensis from northeastern Utah and northwestern Colorado, and Mentzelia…
Mentzelia rhizomata (Loasaceae: Mentzelioideae), a New Species from Western Colorado
Abstract Mentzelia rhizomata, a new species of sect. Bartonia, is described from the Roan Plateau area of Garfield Co., Colorado. It may be readily distinguished from other taxa of the section by its
A new species of Mentzelia section Bartonia (Loasaceae) from the Grand Canyon, Arizona
TLDR
The flowers of M. hualapaiensis differ from those of its closest relatives in having cream-white, linear to narrowly spatulate petals and staminodes, characteristics that are convergent with those of the flowers of the Chihuahuan Desert species M. humilis.
Biogeographical diversification of Mentzelia section Bartonia in western North America
TLDR
Lineage‐specific formation of the modern western North American flora was investigated by applying statistical phylogenetic methods to molecular data.
New species of Mentzelia (Loasaceae) and Phacelia (Hydrophyllaceae) from New Mexico
TLDR
The new Mentzelia todiltoensis and Phacelia sivinskii are described from northwestern New Mexico, USA and are compared to M. humilis and M. memorabalis based on similarities in seed, fruit, leaf, and flower morphology.
Taxonomic Novelties from Western North America in Mentzelia section Bartonia (Loasaceae)
Abstract Recent field collections and surveys of herbarium specimens have raised concerns about species circumscriptions and recovered several morphologically distinct populations in Mentzelia
SYSTEMATICS OF THE GENUS MENTZELIA (LOASACEAE) IN SOUTH AMERICA1
Abstract South American taxa of Mentzelia L. (Loasaceae) are revised and morphologically and ecologically characterized on the basis of extensive field studies, cultivation of several taxa, and a
Name Changes in the Mentzelia multicaulis Complex (Loasaceae)
TLDR
Both stamen and leaf shape characters support evolutionary relationships of these species with their closest relatives among the mentzelias found in the Intermountain West of the United States.
Investigating Phylogenetic Placement and Species-Level Relationships in a Recent Radiation of Mentzelia Section Bartonia (Loasaceae) from the Mojave Desert
TLDR
This work generated restriction site associated DNA sequence data (RADSeq) to address evolutionary relationships in the Mojave clade and corroborated previous studies in continued recognition of Mentzeli polita, Mentzelia leucophylla, and MentzelIA tiehmii.
Phylogeny and Taxonomy of Mentzelia Section Bartonia (Loasaceae)
Abstract Taxonomic problems in Mentzelia section Bartonia (Loasaceae) are addressed using phylogeny reconstructions based on nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences from the ITS and ETS regions. Our results
A FLORISTIC SURVEY OF VASCULAR PLANTS OVER PARTS OF NORTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO
A floristic survey was completed in northeastern New Mexico, including all of Harding, Mora, and San Miguel counties, most of Colfax County, and Quay County north of Interstate 40. Prior to this

New species and a new combination of Mentzelia section Bartonia (Loasaceae) from the Colorado Plateau
TLDR
This paper factors two species from the diversity in Mentzelia (sect. Bartonia) in the Colorado Plateau, and, although recognition of these two species makes understanding the remaining diversity somewhat easier, there still exist some local endemics that need recognition, and it feels certain that additional endemic remain to be discovered.
New species of Mentzelia (Loasaceae) from Grand County, Utah
—A new species, Mentzelia (Section Bartonia) shitltziortirn, of the Loasaceae (Mentzelioideae) is described. A close relationship with M. multicaulis (Osterh.) Darl. and M. argillosa Darl. is
