We present a detailed abundance analysis based on high-resolution and high signal-to-noise spectra of eight extremely metal-poor (EMP) stars with [ Fe/H ] ≲ − 3.5 dex, four of which are new. Only stars with 4900 K < Teff < 5650 K are included. Two stars of the eight are outliers in each of several abundance ratios. The most metal-poor star in this sample, HE 1424–0241, has [ Fe/H ] ∼ − 4 dex and is thus among the most metal-poor stars known in the Galaxy. It has highly anomalous abundance…

BOO–1137—AN EXTREMELY METAL-POOR STAR IN THE ULTRA-FAINT DWARF SPHEROIDAL GALAXY BOÖTES I

We present high-resolution (R ∼ 40,000), high-signal-to-noise ratio (20–90) spectra of an extremely metal-poor giant star Boo−1137 in the “ultra-faint” dwarf spheroidal galaxy (dSph) Boötes I,

Detailed Abundances for 28 Metal-poor Stars: Stellar Relics in the Milky Way

We present the results of an abundance analysis for a sample of stars with –4 < [ Fe/H ] < − 2. The data were obtained with the HIRES spectrograph at Keck Observatory. The set includes 28 stars, with

METAL-POOR STARS OBSERVED WITH THE MAGELLAN TELESCOPE. II. DISCOVERY OF FOUR STARS WITH [Fe/H] ⩽ −3.5

We report on the discovery of seven low-metallicity stars selected from the Hamburg/ESO Survey, six of which are extremely metal-poor (EMP, [Fe/H] ⩽ −3.0), with four having [Fe/H] ⩽ −3.5. Chemical

THE MOST METAL-POOR STARS. II. CHEMICAL ABUNDANCES OF 190 METAL-POOR STARS INCLUDING 10 NEW STARS WITH [Fe/H] ⩽ −3.5,,

We present a homogeneous chemical abundance analysis of 16 elements in 190 metal-poor Galactic halo stars (38 program and 152 literature objects). The sample includes 171 stars with [Fe/H] ⩽ −2.5, of

THE MOST METAL-POOR STARS. IV. THE TWO POPULATIONS WITH [Fe/H] ≲ −3.0

We discuss the carbon-normal and carbon-rich populations of Galactic halo stars having [Fe/H] ≲ −3.0, utilizing chemical abundances from high-resolution, high signal-to-noise model-atmosphere

DETAILED ABUNDANCES OF TWO VERY METAL-POOR STARS IN DWARF GALAXIES

The most metal-poor stars in dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) can show the nucleosynthetic patterns of one or a few supernovae (SNe). These SNe could have zero metallicity, making metal-poor dSph

Deep SDSS Optical Spectroscopy of Distant Halo Stars. III. Chemical analysis of extremely metal-poor stars

We present the results of an analysis for 107 extremely metal-poor (EMP) stars with metallicities less than [Fe/H] = -3.0, identified from medium-resolution spectra in SDSS. We follow a methodology

MINING THE SLOAN DIGITAL SKY SURVEY IN SEARCH OF EXTREMELY α-POOR STARS IN THE GALAXY

As we know, the majority of metal-poor Galactic halo stars appear to have chemical abundances that were enhanced by α-elements (e.g., O, Mg, Si, Ca, and Ti) during the early stage of the Galaxy.

NORMAL AND OUTLYING POPULATIONS OF THE MILKY WAY STELLAR HALO AT [Fe/H] <−2

From detailed abundance analysis of >100 Hamburg/ESO candidate extremely metal-poor (EMP) stars we find 45 with [Fe/H] < −3.0 dex. We identify a heretofore unidentified group: Ca-deficient stars with

Chemical Abundance Analysis of Three α-poor, Metal-poor Stars in the Ultrafaint Dwarf Galaxy Horologium I

We present chemical abundance measurements of three stars in the ultrafaint dwarf galaxy Horologium I, a Milky Way satellite discovered by the Dark Energy Survey. Using high-resolution spectroscopic

This paper reports detailed abundance analyses for four extremely metal-poor (XMP) giant stars with (Fe=H)< 3:8, based on high-resolution, high-S=N spectra from the ESO VLT (Kueyen/UVES) and LTE

The Frequency of Carbon Stars among Extremely Metal-poor Stars

We demonstrate that there are systematic scale errors in the [Fe/H] values determined by the Hamburg/ESO Survey (HES; and by inference by the HK survey in the past) for certain extremely metal-poor,
