To elucidate the importance of the neurohypophysial hormones for the emission of semen, several neurohypophysial peptides were tested in male rabbits and the sperm density in the ejaculates was determined. Besides oxytocin and vasopressin, vasotocin and one oxytocin analogue (de-amino1-oxytocin) were used. Only vasopressin, in a dose as low as 10 mU, increased the number of spermatozoa in the ejaculates. It is suggested that vasopressin is of physiological significance for the emission of semen…

The Effect of Single-Dose Oxytocin Application on Time to Ejaculation and Seminal Parameters in Men

TLDR
The data indicate that oxytocin has no detectable effect on ejaculation time and seminal parameters after intranasal application in normal, healthy men.

Identification and characterization of two classes of receptors for oxytocin and vasopressin in porcine tunica albuginea, epididymis, and vas deferens.

The neurohypophysial hormones oxytocin (OT) and vasopressin (VP) are involved in the regulation of the contractility of the male genital tract in several animal species. We investigated the presence

Lack of effect of a single i.v. dose of oxytocin on sperm output in severely oligozoospermic men.

TLDR
The data indicate that a single-dose of i.v. oxytocin has no detectable effect on seminal parameters in men with severe oligozoospermia.

Vasopressin receptors in human seminal vesicles: identification, pharmacologic characterization, and comparison with the vasopressin receptors present in the human kidney.

TLDR
The results indicate that a very high affinity (0.2 nM), low capacity (14 fmoles/mg protein) class of vasopressin receptors is present in human seminal vesicles, having pharmacologic characteristics similar to the V1 subtype of vasopoline receptors.

TLDR
The sparse literature on this subject is reviewed and a series of 25 cases of diverse and sometimes unusual aetiology reported, suggesting that ejaculatory control can be adversely affected by a variety of physical and psychological conditions.

Foreplay, a selected strategy that might be able to increase fertility rates.

THE INFLUENCE OF OXYTOCIN UPON SOME SEMINAL CHARACTERISTICS IN THE RABBIT.

TLDR
Results have been presented suggesting a release of gonadotropins caused by oxytocin, shown to increase the volume of the first ejaculate obtained and incite a more rapid emission of sperm cells in the ejaculates immediately following.

Effects in vivo of neurohypophysial hormones on the contractile activity of accessory sex organs in male rabbits.

TLDR
The results support the theory that neurohypophysial hormones may regulate sperm transport in the male through their effects on the contractile elements of the genital organs, possibly being complementary in their actions.

The fate of oxytocin in male and female rats.

TLDR
In animals without kidneys or lactating mammary glands and with no circulation in the splanchnic area oxytocin was distributed into a volume greater than the extracellular fluid volume, and after equilibration the concentration in plasma did not change significantly.

Gonadotrophic activity in the pituitary and urine of the male rabbit after oxytocin treatment.

TLDR
The effects of oxytocin on spermatogenesis and sperm output may be mediated via activation of the anterior pituitary gland, and in cases of male infertility where treatment with gonadotropic hormones is indicated oxytoc in may be of value.

TLDR
Evidence showed that oxytocin was more potent in individual animals with a subnormal testicular function than in animals injected twice daily with saline.

The contractility of the cauda epididymidis of the mouse, its spontaneous activity in vitro and the effects of oxytocin.

TLDR
The contractility of the cauda epididymidis of the mouse was studied in vitro and contractions were evaluated by amplitude (in mg) and frequency (contractions/10 min); Oxytocin reduced the frequency of the contractions.

The effect of synthetic oxytocin upon seminal characteristics and sexual behaviour in male rabbits.

TLDR
In male rabbits the composition of the ejaculate changes, and the willingness to copulate increases upon intravenous injection of purified extract of the posterior lobe of the pituitary, ascribed to the oxytocic activity of the extract which, however, may contain small amounts of other hormones as impurities.

Short- and long-term effects of oxytocin on quality and quantity of semen from rams.

TLDR
Oxytocin appeared to have an immediate stimulating effect on the ejection of spermatozoa and seminal plasma during emission and a long term adverse effect on spermatogenesis.

Basic Pharmacological Properties of Synthetic Analogues and Homologues of the Neurohypophysial Hormones

TLDR
The principal aim of all this work was to try to establish relationships between the chemical structure and the biological activities of these hormones.
