Despite continual fluctuations in walking surface properties, humans and animals smoothly transition between terrains in their natural surroundings. Walking transitions have the potential to influence dynamic balance in both the anterior-posterior and medial-lateral directions, thereby increasing fall risk and decreasing mobility.
