A neurocytoma is a central nervous system tumor composed of small cells with features of neuronal differentiation; it typically occurs in the periventricular region, close to the septum pellucidum and the foramen of Monro. In this article, the authors report the case of a neurocytoma located in the cerebellum, which to their knowledge is the first reported case of its kind. The finding of a neurocytoma at a nonclassic location refutes the theory that this tumor has its origins in subependymal…
Neurocytoma of the cerebellum
TLDR
A rare case of a neurocytoma located in the cerebellar hemisphere is reported, which should be considered in the differential diagnosis of mass lesions in the Cerebellum.
Extraventricular neurocytoma in neurofibromatosis Type 1: case report.
TLDR
A case of a child with neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) who had a tumor of the optic nerves and chiasm with signal abnormality extending through the diencephalon, as well as an occipital lobe mass, which was presumed to be part of the visual pathway neoplasm, is reported.
Fourth Ventricular Neurocytoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature
TLDR
The unusual case of a central neurocytoma that developed in the fourth ventricle of a 59-year-old woman and metastasized to the upper cervical canal and appears most likely that this tumour arises from subependymal progenitor cell lines.
Infiltrative brainstem and cerebellar neurocytoma.
TLDR
The unique case of a 15-year-old girl who was found to have a low-grade neurocytoma infiltrating the brainstem and cerebellum and spreading along the CSF pathways to the lateral and third ventricles is reported.
Extraaxial neurocytoma in the skull base
TLDR
A rare case of an extraventricular neurocytoma in the sphenocavernous-petroclival region that was successfully treated by radiation therapy following partial removal and pathological evaluation of the tumor is reported.
Neurocytoma arising in the pelvis
TLDR
This is the second reported case of a neurocytoma outside the central nervous system, indicating that this entity may also occur infrequently in peripheral tissues.
Atypical neurocytoma of the spinal cord in a young child
TLDR
Pathological examination showed atypical histology in the form of vascular endothelial proliferation, increased proliferation index, mitosis and necrosis in an 8-year-old boy who presented with paraparesis and urinary incontinence.
A RECURRENT CEREBELLAR LESION IN A YOUNG BOY
TLDR
The case of a boy with a recurrent non-lipomatous cerebellar neurocytoma, which has recurred twice over 4 years with similar histology and immunophenotype is reported.
Extraventricular neurocytoma: morphological and immunohistochemical considerations on differential diagnosis.
TLDR
The authors emphasize the role of the morphological and immunohistochemical evaluations to recognize this rare tumor in a young girl admitted to hospital for a cranial trauma subsequent to a seizure.
Neurocytoma of the Thoracic Spinal Cord
TLDR
The case of a 50-year-old man who presented with pain and a rapidly progressive myelopathy due to a neurocytoma of the upper thoracic spinal cord is reported.

Central neurocytoma: histopathological variants and therapeutic approaches.
TLDR
Observations of anaplastic variants of this neoplasm in two cases and local tumor recurrences in three indicate that the biological behavior and postoperative prognosis of central neurocytoma may not always be as favorable as previously assumed.
Neurocytoma/lipoma (neurolipocytoma) of the cerebellum
TLDR
A unique tumour that was removed from the posterior fossa of a woman aged 50 years was characterized histologically by bland, oval cells with fibrillary cytoplasm and by small groups of lipocytes, and the combination of neuroectodermal and mesodermal features is discussed.
Central Neurocytoma: A Synopsis of Clinical and Histological Features
The central neurocytoma is a supratentorial, often calcified brain tumour affecting young adults and is typically located in the lateral ventricles in the region of the foramen of Monro. Clinically,
Cerebral neurocytoma. A new subset of benign neuronal tumors of the cerebrum
TLDR
Three cases of patients with unusual neuronal tumors in the cerebral hemisphere with long‐standing epileptic seizures are reported, and all tumors showed neuronal differentiation, including numerous clear and occasional dense‐core vesicles, microtubules, and a number of synapses.
Intraventricular neurocytoma: a clinical and pathological study of three cases and review of the literature.
TLDR
Three patients with a recently described tumor of neuronal origin, intraventricular neurocytoma, are presented and the use of synaptophysin, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and Leu-7 demonstrated staining patterns that may be useful in the diagnosis of this tumor.
Dysembryoplastic Neuroepithelial Tumor: A Tumor with Small Neuronal Cells Resembling Oligodendroglioma
TLDR
Dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor (DNT) is a clinicopathologically unique group of tumors, mostly located in the temporal lobe, associated with intractable complex partial seizure in young patients, related to gan-glioglioma and central neurocytoma and form a spectrum of tumors harboring small neuronal cells.
Central Neurocytomas: Critical Evaluation of a Small‐Cell Neuronal Tumor
TLDR
The expression of LI adhesion molecule and the isoform 180 of N.CAM, indicates that central neurocytomas are formed by cells committed to neuronal phenotype, Nevertheless, advanced neuronal differentiation may be absent, as suggested by the persistence of embryonic N. CAM.
Histogenesis and differentiation potential of central neurocytomas.
TLDR
It is concluded that the central neurocytoma is a neuroectodermal tumor with consistent commitment for neuronal differentiation and an origin from bipotential progenitor cells in the periventricular matrix, which in the mammalian brain persists throughout adult life.
