which is proportional to the number of pho-tons in the cavity. Such a scheme was proposed a few years ago by the ENS group 4 , but it has not been implemented yet, because the fact that the atom–field interaction is non-resonant makes it very weak. In the present experiment 1 , a different trick is used: the interaction is fully resonant and thus much larger.
