Previous studies to examine the effects of thrombocytopenia on thrombopoiesis have generally utilized immune-mediated platelet depletion. We have developed a nonimmune model to exclude the possibility that adverse immune-mediated effects have been misinterpreted as the physiological response to stimulation of thrombopoiesis.
