Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) localized to excitatory longitudinal muscle motoneurons were studied in segments of guinea pig ileum maintained in vitro. Longitudinal muscle contractions caused by the nAChRs agonists, dimethylphenylpiperazinium (DMPP), nicotine, and cytisine were measured using isometric strain gauge transducers.
