Although the data on hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) has gradually increased, the neonatal-onset HLH patients have usually been reported as case reports or together with other age groups of patients. The aim of this study was to draw attention to the clinical and laboratory characteristics of neonatal HLH cases. Herein, the data of 8 primary, neonatal-onset HLH patients are reported. Mutational analyses were performed in 7 of the patients and mutations in UNC13D gene were detected in 3…
Different Clinical Presentation of 3 Children With Familial Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis With 2 Novel Mutations.
TLDR
Hematologists should be vigilant about the different presentation of FHL in children and present 3 FHL cases with 2 novel mutations with different initial presentations.
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis mimicking neonatal hemochromatosis
Abstract Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a potentially fatal illness characterized by impaired natural killer (NK) cell and cytotoxic T-cell function. Patients develop systemic
Hereditary and acquired hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
TLDR
Understanding of the pathophysiology of HLH has improved in the last decade and the establishment of diagnostic and treatment guidelines has resulted in earlier diagnoses and the rapid initiation of therapy, both of which are associated with favorable outcomes.
Assessment of clinical and laboratory presentations of familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis patients with homozygous W374X mutation.
TLDR
Homozygous W374X mutation was identified in unrelated 13 patients (6M/7F) from consanguineous families, 62% of which had history of deceased sibling, providing evidence for the probable existence of a founder effect.

TLDR
Therapies for hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis focus on restoring health by diminishing the disease sequelae with a goal of hematopoietic stem cell transplant, the only known curative therapy for hemolymphoma.
French Retrospective Multicentric Study of Neonatal Hemochromatosis: Importance of Autopsy and Autoimmune Maternal Manifestations
TLDR
This work highlights the importance of autopsy in cases of neonatal haemochromatosis and marshals additional data in support of the hypothesis that neonatal hemochROMatosis could reflect maternal immune system dysregulation.
Niemann - Pick disease associated with hemophagocytic syndrome.
TLDR
To the best of the knowledge, this is the first case of NPD associated with HLH and the first demonstration of hemophagocytosis by Niemann-Pick cells.
Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in Association With Clostridium difficile Infection and Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma
TLDR
A 35-year-old male with recently diagnosed EBV positive NKT cell lymphoma was admitted for Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea and gradually developed pancytopenia and multi-organ failure leading to death.
Study of the diagnostic criteria for hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis in neonatal and pediatric patients with severe sepsis or septic shock
TLDR
The distributions of the HLH criteria were comparable for pediatric and neonatal patients with severe sepsis/septic shock, and their mortality rates were not significantly different when based on the criteria.

TLDR
No significant differences for clinical and laboratory data were found between the two groups of patients studied, and Elevated LDH levels were found in all patients tested.
Clinical and Genetic Studies of Familial Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in Oman: Need for Early Treatment
TLDR
A nationwide study on all patients diagnosed with HLH in Oman during the 5-year period 1997-2001 was performed, and a novel missense mutation in the perforin gene was identified, causing a transition of proline to threonine at codon 89.
Atypical familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis responding to non‐cytotoxic therapy
TLDR
A patient with familial hemophagocytic lympohistiocytosis (FHL) who first presented with atypical symptoms in the neonatal period and responded well to noncytotoxic therapy is described.
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis presenting with thrombocytopenia in the newborn.
TLDR
Persistent or recurrent thrombocytopenia of undetermined cause during the neonatal period should raise the suspicion of HLH, even though other symptoms or signs are not yet evident.
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. Report of 122 children from the International Registry. FHL Study Group of the Histiocyte Society.
TLDR
None of the previously proposed prognostic indicators (age, associated infection, cerebrospinal fluid pleocytosis, family history, and treatment outcome) correlated with treatment outcome.

TLDR
Characteristic laboratory findings in FHL are hypertriglyceridemia and hypofibrinogenemia, which are reversible with treatment, and Immunologic studies present evidence for a disturbed function of T lymphocytes, but a secondary immune defect seems to be more likely than primary immune deficiency.
Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis: A Single-Center Report of 48 Patients
TLDR
This survey demonstrates the long-term efficacy of HSCT as a cure of FHLH and shows that HSCT should be performed as early as a complete remission has been achieved.
