We present low-resolution (R ~ 500) near-infrared spectra of 46 candidate young stellar objects in the Chamaeleon I star-forming region recently detected in several deep photometric surveys of the cloud. Most of these stars have K < 12. In addition, we present spectra of 63 previously known southern hemisphere young stars mainly belonging to the Chamaeleon I and Lupus dark clouds. We describe near-infrared spectroscopic characteristics of these stars and use the water vapor indexes to derive…
Optical spectra of selected Chamaeleon I young stellar objects
We present optical spectra of eight candidate brown dwarfs and a previously known T Tauri star (Sz 33) of the Chamaeleon I dark cloud. We derived spectral types based on the strength of the TiO or VO
Near-IR spectra of ISOGAL sources in the inner Galactic Bulge
We present near-IR spectra (HK-band) of a sample of 107 sources with mid-IR excesses at 7 and 15m detected during the ISOGAL survey. Making use of the DENIS interstellar extinction map from
The Stellar Population of the Chamaeleon I Star-Forming Region
I present a new census of the stellar population in the Chamaeleon I star-forming region. Using optical and near-IR photometry and follow-up spectroscopy, I have discovered 50 new members of
XMM-Newton probes the stellar population in Chamaeleon I South
We report on a 30 ks XMM-Newton observation of the central region of the Cha I star forming cloud. The field includes a substantial fraction of the known pre-main-sequence population of Cha I South,
The brown dwarf population in the Chamaeleon I cloud
We present the results of a multiband survey for brown dwarfs in the Chamaeleon I dark cloud with the Wide Field Imager (WFI) camera at the ESO/MPG 2.2-m telescope on La Silla (Chile). The survey has
An X-Ray Census of Young Stars in the Chamaeleon I North Cloud
Sensitive X-ray imaging surveys provide a new and effective tool to establish the census of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars in nearby young stellar clusters. We report here a deep Chandra X-Ray
Extending the census at the bottom of the stellar mass function in Chamaeleon I
We present the results of a deep, wide field objective prism survey of the entire Chameleon I cloud, followed by long slit spectroscopy of objects with detected Hα emission that were either
NEAR-IR Spectroscopy of Young Stars in the Braid Nebula Star Formation Region in Cygnus Ob7
We present 1.4-2.5 ?m integral field spectroscopy of 16 stars in the Braid Nebula star formation region in Cygnus OB7. These data form one aspect of a large-scale multiwavelength survey aimed at
DISK EVOLUTION IN THE THREE NEARBY STAR-FORMING REGIONS OF TAURUS, CHAMAELEON, AND OPHIUCHUS
We analyze samples of Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph spectra of T Tauri stars in the Ophiuchus, Taurus, and Chamaeleon I star-forming regions, whose median ages lie in the <1-2 Myr range. The median
ISO-Cha I 192: A New Embedded Eruptive Variable in the Chamaeleon I Dark Cloud*
We report the detection of an increase of about 2 mag in the 2.2 μm brightness of ISO-Cha I 192, a class I low-mass stellar object thought to be driving a bipolar CO outflow in the Chamaeleon I

Near-infrared spectra of ISO selected Chamaeleon I young stellar objects
We present 0.95{2.5 mm oderate (R 500) resolution spectra of 19 ISOCAM detected sources in the Chamaeleon I dark cloud. Thirteen of these stars are candidate very low mass members of the cloud
A Deep Near-Infrared Survey of the Chamaeleon I Dark Cloud Core
We have carried out a deep near-infrared imaging survey to search for low-mass young stellar objects (YSOs) in the densest star-forming core of the Chamaeleon I dark cloud. Our observations cover an
Spectroscopy of Brown Dwarf Candidates in the ρ Ophiuchi Molecular Core
We present an analysis of low-resolution infrared spectra for 20 brown dwarf candidates in the core of the ρ Ophiuchi molecular cloud. Fifteen of the sources display absorption-line spectra
Deep Near-Infrared Images and ISOCAM Observations of Chamaeleon I North*
We present the results of deep near-infrared imaging and ISOCAM observations of three selected regions localized in the northern part of the Chamaeleon I dark cloud, in order to search for the
A study of the stellar population in the Chamaeleon dark clouds
The properties of the stellar population in the Chamaeleon dark clouds are discussed. Spectral energy distributions, based on the extant photometric and spectroscopic data base and IRAS fluxes
H- and K-Band Spectra of Brown Dwarf Candidates in the Core of the ρ Ophiuchi Molecular Cloud Complex
We present low-resolution H- and K-band spectra of 14 brown dwarf candidates located in the core of the ρ Ophiuchi molecular cloud complex. Half of the spectra exhibit broad water absorption bands
The stellar population of the Lupus clouds
We present photometric and spectroscopic observations of the H alpha emission stars in the Lupus dark cloud complex. We estimate the effective temperatures of the stars from their spectral types and
Near-Infrared Classification Spectroscopy: H-Band Spectra of Fundamental MK Standards
We present a catalog of H-band spectra for 85 stars of approximately solar abundance observed at a resolving power of 3000 with the KPNO Mayall 4 m Fourier Transform Spectrometer. The atlas covers
A 3 μm Survey of the Chamaeleon I Dark Cloud
We describe an L-band photometric survey of ~ 0.5 deg2 of the Chamaeleon I dark cloud. The survey has a completeness limit of L < 11.0. Our survey detects 124 sources, including all known
High-sensitivity IRAS observations of the Chamaeleon I dark cloud
Very sensitive IRAS observations of a region of 0.8 sq deg in the Chamaeleon I cloud have revealed 70 compact sources. Hot sources are field stars; warm sources are associated with pre-main-sequence
