Abstract A method for computing natural frequencies of finite circular cylinders in axially symmetric longitudinal vibration is developed which is applicable to both solid and hollow cylinders with any type of homogeneous boundary conditions. The procedure involves representation of the components of displacement in series of the corresponding pure radial and axial modes of the infinite cylinder.
