This paper reports on the theretical fundamentals of a novel modeling approach that follows the singularity theory rather than the continuity theory. The singularity oriented modeling is very useful in Certain applications, e.g. in form-giving and styling, rapid prototyping and shape generation based on gestural devices. The authors refer to this novel description technique as natural shape representation (N-rep). The key modeling entities are shape singularities of various order, structures…

VAGUE MODELING FOR CONCEPTUAL DESIGN

The creation and manipulation of conceptual shapes need different modeling techniques from what are available in present CAD systems. Conceptual modeling techniques are supposed to provide more

VAGUE GEOMETRIC REPRESENTATION AND ITS APPLICATION IN ANTHROPOMETRICAL MODELING

A novel geometric modeling technique, called vague modeling, is presented for the purpose of a cluster-oriented reconstruction of shapes from anthropometrical measurements, and to generate shape instances from this generic model.

TOWARDS THE REUSE OF SHAPE INFORMATION IN CAD

This paper analyses the strategies of the current approaches, and proposes a hybrid method that combines the advantages of both mentioned above, and introduces some new research fields, such as Evolutionary Design (ED), and the relationship with regard to this research is discussed.

THEORETICAL FUNDAMENTALS OF NATURAL REPRESENTATION OF SHAPES GENERATED WITH GESTURAL DEVICES

The authors refer to this novel description technique as natural shape representation (N-rep) scheme, which incorporates new structural (topological) entities and specific relationship in order to harmonize the output of gesture devices with the external view of the scheme.

Analytical Boundary of the Workspace for General3-DOF Mechanisms

The main result of this work is the ability to analytically define boundary surfaces of the workspace, which is applicable to kinematic chains that can be mod eled using the Denavit-Hartenberg representation for serial kinematics or its modification for closed-loop kinematically chains.

Synthesis of a Unified Approach to Shape Modeling

A unified shape representation for polyhedra is proposed as a result of some efforts for the last few years to understand the shape ofpolyhedra, and how current shape models represent and manipulate it.
