The National Design Repository project was begun in 1995 as an effort to serve researchers in engineering design, manufacturing process planning and geometric and solid modeling. The Repository is a collection of public domain computeraided design data from a variety of sources and vendors. This data includes solid models and CAD files, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) information, assemblies, simulations and a limited number of process and machining plans. Repository users employ its content…
TOWARDS REUSABLE KNOWLEDGE-BASED IDEALIZATIONS FOR RAPID DESIGN AND ANALYSIS
TLDR
A knowledge-based framework for integrating design and analysis activities, aimed at reducing the associated iterations, is presented in the context of multifunctional design of Linear Cellular Alloys.
Pernot Multi-criteria similarity assessment for CAD assembly models retrieval 1807
TLDR
A set of four measures to evaluate assembly similarities according to multiple criteria for the retrieval of CAD assembly models are introduced, designed to clearly highlight the different similarities and to allow a fast identification of the target models.
A 3D CAD Assembly Benchmark
TLDR
A benchmark for the evaluation of content-retrieval systems of 3D assembly models is presented and a crucial feature of this benchmark regards its ability to consider the various aspects characterizing the models of mechanical assemblies.
Hierarchical representation and similarity assessment for reuse of sheet metal parts
Sheet metal parts are widely used in the manufacturing industry. With the number of 3D models increasing, it is essential to retrieve existing resources. Effective similarity assessment would be
Identification de caractéristiques de forme et de structure d’assemblages de pièces CAO pour la recherche dans des bases de données
TLDR
One of the main topics of this work is the definition of a descriptor capable of encoding the data needed for the evaluation of similarity adaptable to different objectives, which may be available in CAD models, while other has to be extracted appropriately.
Developing an engineering shape benchmark for CAD models
DETC 2005 / CIE-85612 AN ENGINEERING SHAPE BENCHMARK FOR 3 D MODELS
TLDR
A benchmark database for evaluating shape based search methods relevant to the mechanical engineering domain is proposed and 12 feature vector based representations for 3D shape searching are compared using the benchmark database.
An Engineering Shape Benchmark for 3D Models
TLDR
Development of an engineering shape benchmark and an understanding of the effectiveness of different shape representations for classes of engineering parts are understood.

Cup: a computer-aided conceptual design environment for assembling modeling
TLDR
A software tool for capturing the design intent inherent in the conceptual design process and authoring design semantics in previously created artifacts is described, providing the ability to perform design at the conceptual level and have intelligent CAD tools that can access details from large repositories of previously archived designs.
Conceptual Design for Assembly
TLDR
A system, Conceptual Understanding and Prototyping (CUP), that allows a team of design engineers, collaborating over the Internet, to develop a high-level structure-function-behavior (S-B-F) description of an assembly in a VRML-based virtual environment is described.
Issues in Building and Evaluating Networked Engineering Environments
TLDR
This paper describes recent results from the National Design Repository Project, a growing digital library of publicly available Computer-Aided Design data from a wide variety of application domains.
Building Internet-Based Virtual Environments Collaborative Design
TLDR
This paper presents an overview of the system to support computer-aided conceptual design of mechatronic assemblies in a collaborative, multi-user environment, and envision CUP to be a network interface to next-generation engineering PDM systems and CAD databases.
Conceptual design for mechatronic assemblies
TLDR
The goal is to enable users to navigate intricate Product Data Management (PDM) and case-based design knowledge-bases, providing the ability to perform design at conceptual level and have intelligent CAD tools that can draw on details from large repositories of previously archived designs.

TLDR
The contribution of this research is the first fully automated technique for machining feature-based comparisons of mechanical artifacts, which can lead to radical changes in the way in which design data is managed in modern engineering enterprises.
Software architecture to facilitate automated message recording and context annotation
TLDR
The software architecture of the Collaborative Design Studio environment developing to support Networked Engineering is described, and an XML-based message model is presented to encapsulate relationships between design context and designers' communications.
