Results from an investigation of using engine commands to control fligh_ attitude are described. In-flight operation with simulaled failed flight controls is reviewed and ground simulations of piloted propulsive-only control to touchdown are analyzed. A design of an optimal control law to assist the pilot is presented. Recommendations are made for more robust design and implementation. Results to date indicate thal simple and effeclive augmenled control can be achieved in a wide variety of failed configurations.
