Sudden cardiac death is a major clinical problem, causing 300000 to 400000 deaths annually (1). The reported incidence of sudden cardiac death is 54 to 55 per 100000 persons, accounting for 5.6% of annual mortality (2, 3). Zheng and colleagues (4) reported that 63% of all cardiac deaths were caused by sudden cardiac death.
