Nanosecond Switching Behavior of Nanopillar Spin Valves

Abstract

We have used nanopillar spin valves to study the reversal of the magnetization of a thin ferromagnetic layer using short (1-100 ns) current pulses. Patterning of high aspect ratio (~3:1) ellipses has produced thermally stable devices in which reversal occurs between 0.6 mA for a 10 ns pulse and 2 mA for a 1 ns pulse.
