We summarize procedures for producing ‘nanoemulsions’ comprised of nanoscale droplets, methods for controlling the droplet size distribution and composition, and interesting physical properties of nanoemulsions. In contrast to more common microscale emulsions, nanoemulsions exhibit optical transparency at high droplet volume fractions, ϕ, surprisingly strong elasticity at low ϕ, and enhanced diffusive transport and shelf stability. For these reasons, nanoemulsions have great potential in a wide…

A CRITICAL REVIEW ON NANO EMULSIONS

Nanoemulsions are only kinetically stable. However, the long term physical stability of nanoemulsions (with no apparent flocculation or coalescence) makes then unique and they are sometimes referred

Structure of concentrated nanoemulsions.

Although the low-q behavior of S(q,phi) resembles that predicted for hard spheres, the height of the primary peak does not and it exhibits a maximum as phi is increased, likely related to the deformability of the droplets that have been locked into a glassy structure.

Extreme emulsification: formation and structure of nanoemulsions

Nanoemulsions are metastable dispersions of nanodroplets of one liquid that have been ruptured by shear in another immiscible liquid. The ruptured droplets are stabilized against subsequent

Formation of Concentrated Nanoemulsions by Extreme Shear

Abstract We have systematically investigated the production of “nanoemulsions,” droplets of one liquid phase in another immiscible liquid phase that have diameters less than 100 nm. Our approach

Stability criteria for emulsions.

Evidence is presented that the stability of the emulsions can be characterized by two microscopic parameters: a minimum stablevalue of the surfactant chemical potential and a maximum value of the pressure exerted upon a droplet-droplet interface.

Dense cluster formation during aggregation and gelation of attractive slippery nanoemulsion droplets.

Using time-resolved small angle neutron scattering, we have measured the wave-number-dependent structure factor S(q) of monodisperse nanoemulsions that aggregate and gel after we suddenly turn on a

Effective structure factor of osmotically deformed nanoemulsions.

The structure of a uniform silicone oil-in-water nanoemulsion stabilized by sodium dodecyl sulfate is probed using small-angle neutron scattering to speculate that this striking feature is due to the deformation of the droplets into nonspherical shapes as the system begins to approach the limit of a random array of nanoscopic thin films, Plateau borders, and vertexes characteristic of a polyhedral foam.
