Stirring the microporous germanate Ag 4 Ge 7 O 16 . 6H 2 O in aqueous sodium chloride solution leads to a fully-ion-exchanged product Na 4 Ge 7 O 16 . 6 H 2 O, space group R3m, Z = 1 with a = 7.759(3) A, α = 89.08(2)°, V = 466.9 A 3 . Similar treatment of Rb 3 HGe 7 O 16 . 3 H 2 O yields a partially-ion-exchanged material, Na 4-x-y Rb x H y Ge 7 O 16 . n H 2 O, (x = 0.80(4), y0.6, n6), with a = 7.759(5) A, a = 89.53(4)°, V = 467.0 A 3 .
