Higher transcendental functions continue to play varied and important roles in investigations by engineers, mathematicians, scientists and statisticians. The purpose of this paper is to assist in locating useful approximations and software for the numerical generation of these functions, and to offer some suggestions for future developments in this field. Computation of Bessel and Airy Functions and of Related Gaussian Quadrature Formulae
Procedures are described for the high-precision calculation of the modified Bessel function Kν(x), 0 < ν < 1, and the Airy function Ai(x), for positive arguments x, as pre-requisites for generatingExpand
Validated Evaluation of Special Mathematical Functions
TLDR
This work points out how series and limit-periodic continued fraction representations of the functions can be helpful in this respect, and develops a scalable precision technique based on the use of sharpened a priori truncation and round-off error upper bounds in case of real arguments. Expand
Basic Methods for Computing Special Functions
This paper gives an overview of methods for the numerical evaluation of special functions, that is, the functions that arise in many problems from mathematical physics, engineering, probabilityExpand
EVALUATION OF ASSOCIATED LEGENDRE FUNCTIONS OFF THE CUT AND PARABOLIC CYLINDER FUNCTIONS
We review a set of algorithms to evaluate associated Legendre functions off the cut; in particular, we consider prolate spheroidal, oblate spheroidal and toroidal harmonics. A similar scheme can beExpand
On nonoscillating integrals for computing inhomogeneous Airy functions
TLDR
By using steepest descent methods from asymptotics, the standard integral representations of the Scorer functions are modified in order to obtain non-oscillating integrals for complex values of $z$. Expand
About calculation of the Hankel transform using preliminary wavelet transform
The purpose of this paper is to present an algorithm for evaluating Hankel transform of the null and the first kind. The result is the exact analytical representation as the series of the BesselExpand
GEOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF QUASICONFORMAL MAPS AND SPECIAL FUNCTIONS
Our goal is to provide a survey of some topics in quasiconformal analysis of current interest. We try to emphasize ideas and leave proofs and technicalities aside. Several easily stated open problemsExpand
Validated computation of certain hypergeometric functions
TLDR
An efficient algorithm is presented for the validated high-precision computation of real continued fractions, accurate to the last digit, to compute Gauss and confluent hypergeometric functions when one of the numerator parameters is a positive integer. Expand
