The characteristics of memory consolidation, reconsolidation, and state dependency have received considerable attention for many years. Three experiments examined the effects of the NMDA antagonist MK-801 on these phenomena in adolescent rats using passive avoidance conditioning. Experiment 1 demonstrated that immediate post-training administration of MK-801 produced a consolidation impairment at postnatal day 37. Experiment 2 extended this result, showing that MK-801 administered immediately… Expand
Generalization and recovery of post-retrieval amnesia.
TLDR
In contextual fear conditioning in rats, it is found that amnesia induced by administration of midazolam after reexposure to the training context A generalizes readily to a similar context B, and this findings raise important questions about the viability of reconsolidation-based interventions for the treatment of emotional disorders. Expand
Role of D1 receptor antagonism in contextual fear learning and memory
Understanding the modulation of contextual fear learning and memory by the neurotransmitter dopamine is important as it could lead to a greater understanding of the mechanisms underlying anxietyExpand
On the transition from reconsolidation to extinction of contextual fear memories.
TLDR
The results show that in contextual fear memories there is a genuine "null point" between the parameters that induce reconsolidation and extinction, as defined by the effects of MK-801, although NMDA receptor-independent decreases in freezing can still occur in these conditions. Expand
State-dependent effect of dopamine D1/D5 receptors inactivation on memory destabilization and reconsolidation
TLDR
The results demonstrate that hippocampal D1/D5 receptors are not needed for formation, retrieval or post-retrieval restabilization of the ORM trace but are essential for its destabilization when reactivation occurs together with the incorporation of new information into the original memory. Expand
Additive effect of BLA GABAA receptor mechanism and (+)-MK-801 on memory retention deficit, an isobologram analysis
TLDR
Muscimol and bicuculline decreased retention of memory formation in the BLA, and GABAA receptors in theBLA may be involved in the additive effect on (+)-MK-801-induced memory retention deficits. Expand
EXAMINING MEMORY CONSOLIDATION AND RECONSOLIDATION IN AN APPETITIVE PAVLOVIAN TASK
OF THESIS EXAMINING MEMORY CONSOLIDATION AND RECONSOLIDATION IN AN APPETITIVE PAVLOVIAN TASK Memory plays an important role in defining how one behaves. The neurobiological mechanisms of memory haveExpand
Alcohol inhibits morphine/cocaine reward memory acquisition and reconsolidation in rats
TLDR
It is suggested that pre-exposure alcohol dose-dependently attenuated morphine- or cocaine-induced place preference and prevented drug reinstatement in rats by disrupting memory reconsolidation, which may be explained by the inhibitory effect of alcohol on dopaminergic and glutamatergic neurotransmission. Expand
Reconsolidation of a well-learned instrumental memory.
TLDR
It is shown that well-learned lever pressing in rats does undergo reconsolidation, which can be disrupted by systemic administration of the noncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antagonist (+)-5- methyl-10,11-dihydro-SH-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5,10-imine maleate (MK-801). Expand
Apparent Reconsolidation Interference Without Generalized Amnesia
TLDR
It is shown that ABB post-reactivation amnesia is critically dependent on prediction error at the time of memory reactivation and provided evidence for its temporally graded nature, and that pre-re activation administration of ifenprodil prevents MDZ-induced ABB amnesia.
Expand

MK-801 induced retrieval, but not acquisition, deficits for passive avoidance conditioning
TLDR
It is suggested that doses of MK-801 that did not impair PA learning can function as a cue state and influence expression of memory for PA. Expand
The NMDA antagonist MK-801 disrupts reconsolidation of a cocaine-associated memory for conditioned place preference but not for self-administration in rats.
TLDR
It is suggested that cocaine-CPP and self-administration do not use similar neurochemical processes to disrupt reconsolidation or that drugs-associated memories in self-administering rats do not undergo reconsolidations, as assessed by lever-pressing behavior under cocaine reinstatement conditions. Reconsolidation and Extinction of Conditioned Fear: Inhibition and Potentiation
TLDR
Investigation of the effects of enhancing and blocking NMDA receptor-mediated glutamatergic transmission on the reconsolidation and extinction of a conditioned fear memory showed that the basolateral amygdala is a primary locus of action of systemically administered DCS, and memory reconsolidations can be both disrupted and enhanced. Arcaine and MK-801 make recall state-dependent in rats
TLDR
Results suggest that Arcaine and MK-801 induce state-dependent recall and that, probably due to their ability to decrease NMDA receptor function, one drug can substitute for the other at testing, demonstrating a cross-state dependency between arcaine andMK-801. Expand
Intra-Amygdala and Systemic Antagonism of NMDA Receptors Prevents the Reconsolidation of Drug-Associated Memory and Impairs Subsequently Both Novel and Previously Acquired Drug-Seeking Behaviors

It is demonstrated that amygdala NMDA receptors are also necessary for the reconsolidation of drug-associated memories, and drugs modulating glutamatergic transmission at the NMDA receptor may be useful in the future treatment of relapse prevention in drug addiction through memory reconsolidations blockade. TLDR
