The amendments to Section III-D-7, Appendix B, and Appendix G-II-C, which were published in the Federal Register on September 22, 2009 (74 FR 48275) and became effective on that date, clarify and augment the current biosafety guidance for research with potentially pandemic influenza viruses, and harmonize with the CDC/NIH Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (5 edition) and other regulatory policies.
