Starting in the 2004 model year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) improved the rollover resistance ratings in its New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) consumer information by adding a dynamic maneuver test. NHTSA had provided rollover resistance ratings in the 2001 – 2003 model years based solely on the Static Stability Factor (SSF) measurement of vehicles. The ratings express the risk of a vehicle rolling over in the event of a single vehicle crash, the type of crash in…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Contributory factors to the severity of single-vehicle rollover crashes on a mountainous area, generalized additive model

TLDR
The results highlighted the superiority of the GAM compared with the GLM in terms of confusion matrix accuracy and Akaike Information Criterion and found that the impact of passenger vehicles on the severity of rollover crashes is not stable and varies based on the gender of drivers.

Roll Dynamics and Rollover Prevention

Vehicle rollovers account for a significant fraction of highway traffic fatalities. While only 3% of vehicle accidents result in rollovers, 33% of all fatalities have vehicle rollover as a

Rigid body modeling of three wheel vehicle to determine the dynamic stability — A practical approach

The dynamic stability of a vehicle is of profound significance which has led three wheel vehicles to be used for only low speed application. Static Stability Factor (SSF) is a commonly used safety

Mass Data Measurement, Approximation and Influence on Vehicle Stability for Ultra-Light Human-Powered Vehicles

The mass properties of a vehicle play a decisive role in its dynamics and characteristics and are fundamental for vehicle dynamics models and controllers. These values are not yet known for the

ZIELONKA AnAlysis of the risk of double-deck bus rollover At the AvoidAnce of An obstAcle ( AnAlyticAl ApproAch And computer simulAtion )

When critical traffic situations are analysed, particular attention should be paid to the behaviour of double-deck buses in curvilinear motion. Due to the high location of the centre of mass of such

Design of electronic stability control for rollover prevention using sliding mode control

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) can be used for rollover prevention via coupled yaw-roll dynamics. A three-Degree-of-Freedom (3DOF) yaw plane model is used to design the sliding mode controller.

Contributing Factors of Road Crashes in Thailand: Evidence from an Accident In-Depth Study

Road crashes have caused heavy burden to Thailand’s economy as the majority of the victims are from the economically active segments of the population. It was estimated that, in every hour,

Narrow Urban Vehicles with an Integrated Suspension Tilting System: Design, Modeling, and Control

TLDR
A novel integrated suspension tilting system (ISTS) is proposed in this thesis, which replaces rigid mechanical linkages with flexible hydraulic pipes and cylinders and will result in even more compact, light-weighted, and spacious urban vehicles.

Mattos 1 REPEATABILITY OF THE CAROUSEL DYNAMIC STABILITY AND ROLLOVER TEST DEVICE

A novel test device (Carousel) for measuring the dynamic rollover stability of vehicles and initiating a full-scale dynamic rollover test has been installed and evaluated for repeatability and

Yaw stability control for a rear double-driven electric vehicle using LPV-H∞ methods

TLDR
Results from simulations show that the new yaw stability controller improves the vehicle performance and handling even in extreme maneuvers and that it is robust to model parameter uncertainties.
