The boom and bust cycle that afflicts pre-registration nurse education seems sure to continue, figures obtained by Nursing Standard this week suggest. The number of student places being commissioned by strategic health authorities (SHAs) is being cut across England, apparently on the grounds that NHS trusts do not expect to need as many new recruits over the next decade.
