N-Pyrrolylketene (5) is calculated to be destabilized and nonconjugated, with a preferred geometry with the pyrrolyl ring orthogonal to the ketenyl group. Ketene 5 is generated from N-pyrrolylacetic acid (7) with use of Mukaiyama's reagent, and reacts with imines forming β-lactams 10, with a product ratio correlation of log(cis/trans) with σ(+). Photolysis of N-diazoacetylpyrrole (14) in MeOH gives methyl N-pyrrolylacetate (15) from 5 and also ester 17, evidently by trapping of 2-(1… Expand
A Novel Asymmetric Synthesis of 3-(1H-Pyrrol-1-yl)-Substituted β-Lactams via a Bismuth Nitrate-Catalyzed Reaction
The reaction of racemic α-keto β-lactams 5a–5c with the commercially available chiral compound trans-4-hydroxy-L-proline (6) in the presence of a catalytic amount of Bi(NO3)3⋅5 H2O in EtOH gave aExpand
Stereoselective Synthesis of 3-(5-Benzoyl-1-methyl-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)-2-azetidinone Derivatives via an in Situ Generated Ketene
A short route toward β-lactams from tolmetin has been developed. In the key step, a ketene was generated on the C-2 of pyrrole ring and reacted with aromatic imines to form trans-β-lactams as theExpand
Synthesis of Isoxazolone Derivatives from (Chlorocarbonyl)phenyl Ketene with Benzhydroxamic Acids
The reaction of (chlorocarbonyl)phenyl ketene, with readily available benzhydroxamic acid derivatives, such as benzhydroxamic acid, 4-chlorobenzhydroxamic acid, 3-nitrobenzhydroxamic acid,Expand
Highly Stereoselective Synthesis of Saccharin-Substituted β-Lactams via in Situ Generation of a Heterosubstituted Ketene and a Zwitterionic Intermediate as Potential Antibacterial Agents.
Highly stereoselective synthesis of saccharin derivatives containing functionalized 2-azetidinone moiety was achieved starting from sacchar in as an available precursor and the identification of the ketene was confirmed by reaction with the stable free radical TEMPO (TO•). Expand
Ketenes as Privileged Synthons in the Syntheses of Heterocyclic Compounds. Part 1
Abstract Ketenes are typically highly reactive compounds, undergoing addition reactions with electrophiles and nucleophiles as well as being subjected to [2 + 2] cycloadditions with double bonds,Expand
Synthesis of new 1, 8-dioxo-octahydroxanthene derivatives containing 4-thiazolidinone moiety containing 4-thiazolidinone moiety
A series of novel 1, 8-dioxo-octahydroxanthene derivatives containing 4-thiazolidinone framework (4a-f) were synthesized through a four-step reaction starting from the reduction of nitro derivativesExpand
Novel synthesis of 3-pyrrole substituted β-lactams via microwave-induced bismuth nitrate-catalyzed reaction
Abstract Highly stereoselective synthesis of 3-pyrrole substituted β-lactams is accomplished. The first step involves the synthesis of 3-phthalimido substituted β-lactams following StaudingerExpand
Pyrazinyl- and pyrimidinylketenes, bisketenes, and ylides: direct observation and nucleophilic reactivity
Pyrazinylketene (9) and 4-pyrimidinylketene (11), identified by their IR absorption at 2128 and 2130 cm−1, respectively, are formed in CH3CN as transient intermediates by photolysis of theExpand
Experimental and theoretical investigation of benzyl-N-pyrrolylketene, one- step procedure for preparing of new β-lactams by [2 +2] cycloaddition reaction
Abstract3-Phenyl-2-(1-H-pyrrol-1-yl) propanoic acid has been used as a ketene source in synthesizing of monocyclic-2-azetidinones. Hindrance in ketene and imines successfully controlled theExpand
Synthesis and biological evaluation of some novel diastereoselective benzothiazole β-lactam conjugates.
Highly diastereoselective synthesis of some novel benzothiazole-substituted β-lactam hybrids was achieved starting from (benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)phenol as an available precursor and hemolytic activity and mammalian cell toxicity survey of the compounds showed their potential as a medicine. Expand
