Music Content Management for EMD : What are the Issues ? 1 Content Management for Electronic Music Distribution : What Are the Issues ?

title={Music Content Management for EMD : What are the Issues ? 1 Content Management for Electronic Music Distribution : What Are the Issues ?},
  author={François Pachet},
EMD (Electronic Music Distribution) refers to the transportation and distribution of digital music. The profusion of EMD systems spreading in the PC and Internet world makes it difficult to have a global understanding of the real issues at stake, to compare and assess EMD technologies and services. We present a survey of existing approaches by stressing on the nature of the underlying content management technologies. We show that there is a recurring compromise to achieve between two approaches…

Figures from this paper

Automatic playlist composition in a dynamic music landscape
It is concluded that playlist composition should not be left to computers alone and should require a high level human interaction, if not for necessity, at least for more pleasure.
An integrated visual approach for music indexing and dynamic playlist composition
The new tools and techniques presented in this paper enable us to turn musical experience into an integrated visual experience that may generate new music knowledge and emotion.
Enterprise content management research: a comprehensive review
A comprehensive literature review of enterprise content management research, a conceptual framework of areas of concern regarding ECM, and an agenda for future ECM research, based on the review and conceptual framework are provided.

A Combinatorial Approach to Content-Based Music Selection
A novel approach to music selection is proposed, based on computing coherent sequences of music titles, and it is shown that this amounts to solving a combinatorial pattern generation problem.
Musical data mining for electronic music distribution
A classification method based on a musical data mining technique based on co-occurrence and correlation analysis that can be used for classification gives a new approach to similarity between several titles of music or several artists.

Social information filtering: algorithms for automating “word of mouth”
The implementation of a networked system called Ringo, which makes personalized recommendations for music albums and artists, and four different algorithms for making recommendations by using social information filtering were tested and compared.
Polyphonic Pitch Extraction from Musical Signals
The method's appeal lies in its applicability to a wide range of physical or electronic instrument sounds, its being intrinsically designed for polyphonic contexts, its relatively low computational complexity, and its potential for analysis/re-synthesis.
Content-Based Classification, Search, and Retrieval of Audio
The audio analysis, search, and classification engine described here reduces sounds to perceptual and acoustical features, which lets users search or retrieve sounds by any one feature or a combination of them, by specifying previously learned classes based on these features.
The Internet is changing the music industry
An emerging distribution paradigm is redefining the roles of traditional music retailers, tightening competition within the industry and allowing more efficient ways for consumers to get their music.
Helping people find what they don't know
An important problem relating to personalization concerns understanding how a machine can help an individual user via suggesting recommendations.
