We revisited the young Large Magellanic Cloud star cluster NGC 1971 with the aim of providing additional clues to our understanding of its observed extended main-sequence turnoff (eMSTO), a feature commonly seen in young star clusters that has recently been argued to be caused by a real age spread similar to the cluster age (∼160 Myr). We combined accurate Washington and Strömgren photometry of stars with high membership probability to explore the nature of this eMSTO. From different ad hoc…

Observational hints of a real age spread in the young LMC star cluster NGC 1971

We report that the serendipitous young Large Magellanic Cloud cluster NGC 1971 exhibits an extended main-sequence turn-off (eMSTO) possibly originated mostly by a real age spread. We used CT1

Stellar activity with LAMOST – II. Chromospheric activity in open clusters

We use the LAMOST spectra of member stars in Pleiades, M34, Praesepe, and Hyades to study how chromospheric activity vary as a function of mass and rotation at different age. We measured excess

Strömgren metallicities for intermediate-age and old star clusters

We report results that show that the straightforward star cluster metallicities obtained from Strömgren vby photometry are age-dependent and need to be corrected for further use. This outcome arises

Study of color-magnitude diagram of star cluster SL 506

We report a study of the color-magnitude diagram (CMD) of globular cluster SL 506, which shows extended main sequence turn-off (eMSTO). The CMD is derived from deep F450W (B) and F555W (V) images of

Extended main sequence turnoffs in open clusters as seen by Gaia – II. The enigma of NGC 2509

We investigate the morphology of the colour–magnitude diagram (CMD) of the open cluster NGC 2509 in comparison with other Galactic open clusters of similar age using Gaia photometry. At

Formation of Hydrogen Emission Lines in the Magnetospheres of Young Stars

The formation of hydrogen emission lines in the magnetospheres of young stars is considered. The magnetosphere is assumed to be formed by a dipolar magnetic field whose axis is aligned with the

Combined Effects of Rotation and Age Spreads on Extended Main-Sequence Turn Offs

The extended main-sequence turn offs (eMSTOs) of several young to intermediate age clusters are examined in the Magellanic Clouds and the Milky Way. We explore the effects of extended star formation

INTERSTELLAR REDDENING RELATIONS IN THE UBV, UVBY, AND GENEVA SYSTEMS.

Stellar energy fluxes for various spectral types have been combined with filter transmission curves and several different laws of interstellar absorption to obtain reddening relations and the ratio
