Simulations of recording on media with two and three distinct recording layers are presented. A high frequency field is used to select the layer on which data are recorded. Layer-selective recording was confirmed for two layer granular media with narrow distributions. For three layer media magnetostatic interactions between the layers led to a loss of selectivity in the bottom recording layer. Readout of data is possible by staggering transitions in different layers or by using a spin-torque…
Optimization of Dual-Structure Recording Media for Microwave-Assisted Magnetic Recording
Selective recording on multiple structures may be possible with microwave-assisted magnetic recording. The number of parameters in even a dual-structure system is such that optimization is difficult.
Antiferromagnetically Coupled Media for Microwave-Assisted Magnetic Recording
Antiferromagnetically coupled (AFC) media were modeled as a part of a microwave-assisted magnetic recording system. Recording media grains with magnetically hard and soft layers were AFC by a Ru
Microwave-Assisted Magnetic Recording
Microwave-assisted magnetic recording (MAMR) has attracted much attention as one of the promising next-generation ultra-high density recording technologies of hard disk drives (HDDs). MAMR is not
Optimization of the 3-D-MAMR Media Stack
Microwave-assisted magnetic recording (MAMR) is an advanced magnetic recording scheme that is expected to extend the areal density beyond that achieved by conventional perpendicular magnetic
Maximum Likelihood Detection for 3-D-MAMR
TLDR
The study indicates the potential for some net areal-density gains from the introduction of the second layer that could lead to the increased longevity of the magnetic recording industry.
Optimizing Dual-Layer Recording Using Antiferromagnetic Exchange Coupling
Selective recording on media with two discrete recording layers is complicated by magnetostatic interactions between the layers. Introducing antiferromagnetic exchange coupling can compensate for
Layer-selective microwave-assisted magnetization switching in a dot of double antiferromagnetically coupled (AFC) layers
Layer-selective magnetization switching is a key technology for three-dimensional magnetic recording. In this study, layer-selective magnetization switching is demonstrated in a dot of double
Data Recovery for Multilayer Magnetic Recording
TLDR
This article considers a two-layer MLMR system, examines the performance of two candidate detection algorithms, a Viterbi-based algorithm operating on a trellis, and a least-squared algorithm that attempts to invert the effect of the channel’s interference.
Areal Density Capability of Dual-Structure Media for Microwave-Assisted Magnetic Recording
In this article, we investigate the areal density capability (ADC) of dual-structure media for microwave-assisted magnetic recording. The recording medium consists of two, discrete exchange-coupled
