MPEG is undertaking a new initiative to standardize content description of audio and video data/documents. [...] Key Method We will use examples to show how MDF description makes use of combined strength of different description schemes to enhance its expression power and flexibility. We conclude the paper with discussion of using MDF description of a movie video to search/retrieve required scene clips from the movie, on the MDF prototype system we have implemented.Expand
TV drama management system based on the video stream description language
TLDR
A framework to integrate the huge amount of multimedia resources-such as video, sound and texts-and to manage all kinds of descriptions obtained with the automatic method, by manual methods or in other description languages, such as MPEG-7. Expand
Proposal of real world video stream description language (VSDL-RW) and its application
TLDR
This paper has developed a prototype system based on VSDL-RW, named image-map linking/utilization system (IMLUS) which can automatically associate image sequences with related digital maps. Expand
A Multimedia Digital Library System Based on MPEG-7 and XQuery
TLDR
A digital library system that supports content-based retrieval of multimedia objects based on MPEG-7 and XQuery and can be easily extended to support any XML documents. Expand
Movie Video Hypermedia Authoring System
TLDR
In this paper, as an application based on VSDL-TV, the so-called "Movie Video Hypermedia Authoring System" will be introduced, and an XML-based framework for this system is begun. Expand

In the multimedia field, metadata are becoming increasingly important for efficiently cataloguing the abundant flood of information. (Metadata are data on information structures.) The number ofExpand
Advanced Sound Manipulation in Interactive Multimedia Environments
TLDR
A number of innovations are proposed, including the presentation of a combined multimedia framework, supported by a model that describes content-connectivity and stream-synchronization, enabling interaction for all audiovisual data-types included in the system. Expand
Structuring and Querying Documents in an Audio Database Management System
TLDR
This paper lays the foundations for integrating audio into a general purpose DBMS, in the form of an audio abstract data type, along with its properties and associated operators, coupled with an unsupervised statistically-founded speaker-based partitioning technique. Expand
MANIPULATING AUDIO INTO A DBMS
To be fully usable, digital multimedia contents should be supported by a set of tools to query them, and more generally to manipulate them. This is one of the major goals of an audio databaseExpand
Framework and network based multimedia object management environment
TLDR
The background, architecture, and performance of MOME are addressed in detail, which includes a suite of tools such as the Vortex framework, and network file indexer, for maximum user control and flexibility. Expand
Towards a Multimedia Ontology System: an Approach Using TAO_XML
TLDR
This paper first describes the multimedia ontology concepts and then it adopts TAO XML as a suitable ontology description language to propose a general architecture for supporting creation and management of multimedia objects. Expand
